After reading this FABULOUS book I had to read more by Julie Klassen- that is how good this book is!! I read everything our local library had that she wrote. I do like the other books but this one is still my favorite. I like Julie Klassen's writing style. The whole entire book was full of mystery and intrigue. I found all the characters to be believable and realistic. No matter what my review says I do not think I could give this book justice. I found myself wondering what I would do in Mariah's situation- trying to support herself and her servant/friend with no support from home. She is literally an outcast of her own family. She has a secret that you think you might know what it is but the turn of events keeps you guessing until the last moment. Thank you Julie Klassen for sharing your talent with your readers!!

The plot sounds fun doesn't it? It is too bad the book does not live up to the review. I cringe every time I read an error in a book- really people how many people read the draft before it is published can you not get it right? Errors for me at least take away the enjoyment of the book. This book also had no depth to the characters- it really seemed as if part of the book was missing and not just the end or beginning but pages here and there. As a reader we are told what the characters did to fall in love but we did not actually see it played out. There were several times I had to go back a few pages to reread something because it did not fit.
While I really liked the idea of the book, I must say I did not like the finished book.

This was a really weird book. I did not like it at all. If I could give it 0 stars I would. It was not realistic, it gave me a creepy feeling- I really did not want to finish it but I figured I would give it the benefit of the doubt and hoped it would get better- sorry no chance. I wish I could get those few hours I spent reading this back. I felt that that the book was predictable and poorly written.

I really like this one. I think every family in this crazy busy world needs to read this. There are stories of the Amish- but also ideas at the end of each story on how to make a simpler more satisfying family life. There is something in here for everyone. It has made me realize how busy we are- running from here there to everywhere. I need to remember to stop and smell the roses and play with my kiddos. Values are sometimes forgotten in our busy lives- a child asks why they should not steal and we say because it is against the law- is that really the reason? Sometimes we forget to instill values into our children so that they can become good citizens later in life. I really feel this book hits the nail on the head- Amish values can be used in my family- can they in yours too?

I really enjoy reading books about the Amish way of life- fiction or nonfiction. I chose this book for that very reason. However I had a hard time reading it. I believe that prayers need to come from the heart- not from a book to be read and memorized. I think it might be a good devotional or something to read each day- but not to use as a prayer book- of course if you believe otherwise this might be a good fit for you.

While I really like to read novels about the Amish- this was not one of them. This book was so far fetched that it was hard to read. The only reason I finished the book was because I needed to write this review. Yes, I know that this was geared more to the youth, but it was so hard to believe that I could not get past it. These two girls change places because they look alike. One of them is a quiet Amish girl and the other is a rich girl from New York city.
First of all, the Amish speak a dialect of German when communicating amongst themselves- so how did a girl, Madison, from New York get past this? She said she had a terrible accident and forgot the language that children learn from babyhood. They do not learn English until they start school so why would she not remember that and forget English? She also did not know how to cook, clean, or do anything the Amish do. While the Amish girl, Anne, is thrown into New York-she is not doing any better. She does not know how to use the cell phone, she has a maid/housekeeper/cook, but starts cleaning and cooking on her own. The only people who find out are the Aunt and the girls friend. It really is fiction. The one redeeming quality is that it has a moral- the grass is NOT green on the other side. It does have some funny parts too.

I have read many novels with the characters being Amish, and most are really good, however this book blew me out of the water! I loved how unique this book turned out to be. One couple, Amish, the other "English" and neither are wanting to become Amish or English- they want to stay what they are. But, they are brought together and must share Christmas together. They become friends, confidants if you will.

I have struggled with secondary infertility and I understood what Mattie was going through- actually gave me a bit of a spiritual perspective.

I love how there were two couples so drastically different being able to become friends. Most of the Amish books I have read are about seeking love- sometimes in the unforbidden world of the English or in the strict Amish community- this was very refreshing and I loved it!

I must say that I found the book bizarre in places- like Lacey having to marry the priest and then the priest deciding to leave his Christian faith and join the Shakers. The Shakers are an odd lot as well, there are no families just single people living together, they also believed that marriage was a sin and intimate relations between men and women were evil. The odd Shaker ways were quite bizarre as well- constantly working, separated from the opposite sex, spiritual dancing, and having your body be taken over by someone from beyond the grave. I found myself thinking, "Why does she just leave?" Then I realize the time period and how women could not just leave and find their own way.

then there is Isaac. His beloved bride dies and her father turns on him- he has to escape- and where to? The Shakers. He does not believe in their doctrine- he just needs food and shelter. He finds himself watching Lacey- what will happen in the end?

Can Lacey ever be free from the priest she is lawfully wedded to? Will she be able to bring her child with her? How will she make it? You want the answers to these questions? Guess you got to go and read this book for yourself!

Angel Sister

I found this book to be slow, boring and just poorly written. After reading it, I wished I had those few hours back to do something else. I was disappointed in the fact that it was published at all. I could see this as a rough draft but not a final draft. I felt I did not get anything out of the book. A girl is abandoned on the steps of a church and her parents left no note or contact information. The little girl looks to Kate, the girl who finds her, to protect her. The girl is moved to a home of an older couple who never had children and locks her in a dark pantry for punishment. Kate breaks in and gets the little girl out. The girl got in trouble for not letting the lady call her a different name. There are too many micro stories going on and in the end it fell flat. But, of course do not take my word for it- read other reviews. I just can not give a good review to this book.

I enjoy reading books about midwives. Although I was dissapointed that there was a lot of actual midwifery in the book. The book gives bits and pieces of various secrets, but you do not know them until near the end of the book which is nice for suspense purposes. The chapters go back and forth between the main characters which can be good but confusing as well.

I am looking forward to reading more of Eakes' books especially in her Midwives series.

Wow what a great book to have in your home. I received this book from booksneeze.com to read and review. It is divided into daily readings- some stories if you will. It is great for devotionals for homeschoolers, or for people wanting a little tidbit of American history. It is really well done. It is nice to be able to learn something new about our nation each day. Sometimes history can be boring and overwhelming to learn- especially for kiddos. However, with this book it is broken up into small chunks for one to easily digest.

This book was set in the 1970's- something I had to keep remembering. It was a little hard to get in to, but once I did I really enjoyed it. It is a book about forgiveness, love and finding who you are and what you want. There are secrets that have been hidden for a lifetime ready to come out. It is great to find out how those people involved deal with the truth. I really would love the author to do a sequel.

Intense and faced paced! Another book I could not put down. Jake believed his old friend's view of his marriage with Liz, now years after his death he is started to reevaluate his opinion of her. Jake's job is to protect her, but he is starting to have feelings for her. Jake is also trying to figure out why and who is trying to kill Judge Liz Michaels. This book is a page turner with many twists and turns. I am excited to read more about some of the other characters in Hannon's next books.

If I thought the first book in the series was a page turner, then this book was a great ending to the story. Although it was not the perfect ending to the book (in my opinion) it was really good. I of course wish for happy endings in all the books I read.

Once I started reading this book I was not able to put it down- literally. I stayed up late reading it. Ace Collins has a special talent to pull the reader in to be part of the story. I felt like I was on the "team" investigating the murder. I did think there were a lot of people to keep track of and it was a little confusing because the author would refer to them by their last name sometimes and their first times at other times.

There were a couple of places I was confused, but I wonder if that was because I was sent an advance reader copy- where it is unedited. I am sure that these few places were edited and corrected.

This is the first book in the two book series, so this book does not contain the ending- but I did read book two ,Swope's Ridge. I had both the books so I could go right from one book to the next as I would suggest to you.

Christmas at the Harringtons

This book was a quick read- great for a busy Christmas season. The farther I got in the book the more I wanted to read. However I was disappointed in the abrupt ending. It seemed the author had to wrap up the book and get it out to the publisher to meet a deadline. I felt it needed a few more chapters to get to the point in the ending. It seemed lacking and kind of out of place.

If you are looking for a quick read to get you in the Christmas spirit give this book a try!

A definite page-turner in my book! I could not put this book down until I finished it. Each page was filled with suspense- I just had to see what happened in the end!

I really enjoy books that are well written and engaging. It seems lately I have been selecting books that follow this pattern. It is delightful to be able to read a book and be so immersed in the story that I can not put it down!

Noelle has some pretty major flashbacks during the course of the book which is the reason she fled her home in the first place. There are so many levels to this book and so much that happens to Noelle, one can not help getting sucked into the story.

Filled with surprises this book was fun for me to read. I did not know what was going to happen, and could not guess the ending. I know what I wanted to happen and was pleasantly surprised that it came to be! I think this book was well written and that the author is very good. It seems there are so many books out there with stories that are easy to guess their endings, however this book took a few turns I did not anticipate happening. Great read!! I want a book two- I want to find out more about Hatteras Girl!

Sandy Coughlin explains the meaning behind entertaining- what your guests get out of it and how to connect with your guests. There are ideas for conversation starters, foods, places, and how to go about inviting. I think my hang up about entertaining is that I can not do it all, my house is on the smaller side and if we were to invite another family over then we would be squished. However, Coughlin explains that it doesn't matter how big or clean your home is, it is just important how you relate to your guests. I know this is one book I will be keeping around and referencing for years to come.

I am battling a cold right now and stayed in bed most of the day. Since I was resting I decided to read more of the book I started last night. I literally could not put it down! Although I did think it was a sequel to another book because some of my questions were not answered, but they were so few that it did not matter to me and the book was still good as a stand alone. I was intrigued by the storyline as well as an understanding of the characters and their lives. My heart broke along with the characters' when tragedy unfolded. The book made me reflect upon my own life and my relationship with those I love and to realize how much they mean to me.

I just finished this book! I loved it! I felt like I was a part of the story. I found myself wishing I could give Lottie and Dora advice. It is a longer book then ones I have been reading, but I read it fairly quickly. It is a good clean book . The books talks about social classes in England and how they are in America. There is some history of immigration to the United States in the book as well.

I think that those who read this will love it and will learn a little history as well.

I really enjoyed this book. I found myself swept up in the life of Ruth and the fears she was facing. The story was intriguing and thought provoking. I thought what I would do if I were her. I am not sure I could have been as patient as Ruth.

This book was written well and the characters were portrayed in such a manner they were easy to know and love.

This book was a quick and easy read. I enjoyed it, but it reminded me more of a clean romance then anything deeper. There was a little bit of Christianity in it, but not more then would be in a normal book- praying to God when in trouble. It only took me a day or so to read because it was quite short. I felt the characters could have been more developed. I would like to have read more about what they were thinking-especially Emily and her feelings about the predicament she came to find herself in.

Loved this book!! I could not put it down. I have read a number of books based on the Amish and this is one of my favorites. I liked the fact that it was OK for women to have an opinion. In most of the Amish books I have read the men have the final say no matter what their wife thinks.

I usually only take a couple of days to read a book, however this took me over a week, because it took me forever to get in to, but once the first several chapters were done the story became interesting. I have a feeling there will be a sequel to the book because we do not find out what happens to one of the friends-his ending per say. Good read.

I found the storyline intriguing, however as I read I was disappointed to find the story lacking- in all areas. The author got you interested in the characters only to touch the surface with each of them. The story lacked deeper meaning. I felt I really did not get to know any of the characters really well. As I read on I hoped that the story would have some deeper message and that it would delve deeper into the characters- however I was sorely disappointed. When I read a book I like to get to know the character and feel as if I am understand their perspective in the story. I was unable to read this book and feel any connection with any of the characters.

We watched this on Monday for family night. We should have got our box of tissues out before the movie started. This is my worst nightmare: that one of my children will become missing. I watched the movie in suspense realizing in my heart that this was a true story, not based on a true story but the true story. My stomach was in knots, but it was a good movie. Yes, the acting was lacking-especially the gal who played the mom. She seemed very calm and not upset at all that her two year old wondered off in the middle of the woods.

The DVD contains the real people and the story behind the making of the movie. It was very touching to see the actual parents and their true reactions.

This is a must see for all dads-especially ones who think work is more important then their families.

This book by Julie Lessman was a like/dislike. Why? I liked the basic storyline and the characters. I did not like it because the story was too drawn out and the ending was weird and not developed enough to make it a smooth ending. I think that the story could have been edited down and not so long. The last few chapters bounced back and forth between a happy ending and an unhappy ending leaving you guessing until the end.

I was not sure what to expect when I recieved this book. I have tried to read other books that people have wrote about their experiences that were poorly written and uninteresting. However this was NOT that kind of book. This book is well written, very interesting and pulled me in to her story. After finishing this book I wanted to be her friend and get to know her more.

Her story is not a happy one, but it tells her story~ how she has dealt with the death of a child. It has been fairly recent~a little over 2 years. I found myself wanting to comfort her and her family in their time of loss.

Her story also involved adoption. Since we are on our own adoption journey, although ours is domestic foster care, I felt I was able to connect and learn from their experiences.

She is able to give her grief to her Father in Heaven and let him help her through it. Through this journey we are able to SEE how we can learn to give our troubles over to the Lord.

This is a very cute book for children. My 5 year old daughter really liked and thought it was a good book.

One Hand, Two Hands illustrates that their hands are a gift from God. Lucado shows that hands cando all sorts of things but they are best used to serve God by helping others.

There are silly whimsical pictures, but the book ends with a prayer of thanks. A very sweet book, it would make a nice baby gift.

Very rarely do I finish a book on "dieting." Usually diet books are full of scientific facts, psychological mumbo jumbo. Don't get me wrong I do not believe that science and psychology are junk, but when you want to lose weight, you want to do it NOW. I would get discouraged reading the stupid book~ and go off the diet before I even finished the book!! Not with this book. Not only did I finish the book but I did so in 2 days!

Wilson writes about what he learned when we lost his massive amount of weight. He told the readers what to eat, not why it scientifically worked that way. There was no psychological basis, just the facts. He is giving his readers what they need, a way to change their diets forever.

I am so excited to start this new eating plan. I will keep you updated as to how things are going. I need to go buy grapes first!

I have respect and reverence for my Father in Heaven and the Holy Scriptures. I felt that the respect and reverence that the Bible demands was not there. It was almost callous in the way it was written. I was unable to read the entire book, because of the uneasiness that I found from reading the small bit I did. Maybe this book will appeal to others in a way it did not to me.

Okay, so yesterday I was reading this book and told Brian what a great book it was. He asked me what it was about. I told him it was about these 4 astronauts that went on a 2 1/2 year mission to Mars and when they came back EVERYONE in the world was gone. I happened about 2 months before their return~ the same time they lost contact with NASA. So as they are traveling to this bright light in Houston from Florida, they find a homeless gal (about 19 or so)~ the only person alive. Not knowing what to think they took her with them.

Brian was shocked he said, "Your are reading science fiction?" I told him I was and it was soooo good and they needed to make it into a movie! (I never read sci-fi).

Well this morning I finished it and while it was really good, I can not tell you any more. It will spoil the ending for you if I tell you more then what I told you already. But even if you are not into sci-fi (like me) you should try to read it. Only took me about 5 hours to read!

This was a very powerful book and true story. I enjoyed it immensely. It is a quick read (with pictures of sweet Mia), but also amazing. Readers will learn so much about loving themselves and trusting God. This book is a message of hope to all of us who struggle from time to time. There are so many layers to this book. I was intrigued, angry, hopeful, and sad during the reading of this book. I must say the authors are fabulous writers! There was such depth to the story and many layers to the main character.

Unbeknown to me this is the second in the Sisters of Bethlehem Springs series. I really dislike reading sequels when I have not read the first book. I was able to understand the plot, but did not get a lot of the background needed to understand the characters in detail. There is also a third book in the series coming out 2010.

Cleo is a girl comfortable on a ranch and around horses. She dislikes wearing dresses and is more comfortable in a pair of jeans.

Lord Sherwood is sent from London to live in Idaho for a year to earn his keep and understand work. He has a war injury and is need of learning the value of hard work.

Lord Sherwood, or Woody as Cleo calls him, begins working as a ranch hand on Cleo's family ranch. She despises him and wishes she did not have to train him. However as time passes she finds herself becoming more interested in him, but will royalty and a ranch girl be able to be together? You will have to read this book to find out.

I enjoyed the story line, but some of the writing was out of character of the rest of the book. There were paragraphs that were almost poetic~ but forced and did not reflect the other parts of the book. I also got confused in several places as new characters were introduced. The parts about God and Christianity seemed forced and put in as an afterthought.

Book one in the Daughters of Amana series

I had a hard time with this book, it takes place in the Amana colonies. I am unfamiliar with this religion (the author does not even explain what religion this is) and so was confused why any one would want to join these people. Also, it said that being single was better then being married, however it was not forbidden. One of the girls was punished for not keeping the other girl in line~ seems unkind. I wished the author explained more about the religion.

The story is about two young women. One has lived in Amana her whole life, and the other has just moved there from Chicago. It goes through several months of various happenings of the girls.

I think I would have liked the book better with more explanation of the community. It is also book one in a series as the ending of this book does not explain what happens to one of the girls. I dislike having to read another book to find out the conclusion.

A Love of Her Own

Maggie Brendan is a wonderful author. In the third book of the Heart of the West series she brings Josh's sister, April, to Montana~ just in time for his wedding to Juliana. I have read book two, The Jewel of His Heart to read my review click here. Although this is book two, it can be a stand a lone one. I have not had the chance to read the first one, but I did fine reading the next two.

April is finished with love after her heart was broken several years ago. When she receives word from Josh, her brother in Montana, that he is getting married she decides she is ready for a change of scenery for a couple of weeks and leaves to go to Montana.

While in Montana she has a number of crazy adventures. She may find Montana to her liking especially when considering a certain gook looking man.

A delightful read. I wished I could have read it closer to her last book, but after I got in to the book I remembered some of the people from the previous book~ although you would clearly understand the book without reading book 2.

The Homecoming

This is a sequel to The Unfinished Gift, which I also read and reviewed. To read my review go here. Dan Walsh is a great writer. I enjoyed this book because I connected to the characters from the first book and wanted to see more. I am hoping Walsh will do another book in this series.

Shawn Collins has come home from fighting overseas to spend some time with his son and to grieve for the loss of his wife. However the military has another plan in mind. He is called to be a speaker on a tour to raise money for the war effort. It is all very exciting, but Shawn really just wants to be home with Patrick, his son. He will be gone for at least four months, so he needs to hire a nanny/housekeeper. He decides to hire Miss. Townsend, the social worker that brought Patrick to his Grandpa's house. Miss. Townsend loves Patrick and finds herself falling in love with Shawn. Will Shawn find love again?

A book about 16 women! I thought this might be very confusing, however Whitson narrows in on just 5 women and their journey, making it a very well written book.

16 women embark upon a journey to become homesteaders, at least that is what Mr. Drake says. Little do they know he is counting on them becoming brides. However when several women find out his sneaky plan they want nothing to do with it and refuse to go any farther.

These five women decide to homestead together. Throughout this journey of setting up a home some of them find themselves again, ans some find love.

I really enjoyed reading this book and hope there might be a sequel in the future. It kept me entertained as well as keeping me up late at night

We LOVE it!! My husband, 14year old son, and I all swear by it. About the time we received this product, I had been suffering from horrible headaches for several weeks. I had been popping ibuprofen all day to get control of the pain. The day I got Tension Tamer in the mail my son, Sonny, and I both had a headache. We rubbed it on to the back of our necks and temples. Within 30 minutes the headaches were gone!! I am NOT kidding. I was shocked. My husband also suffers from headaches. I told him about this product and he stole it from me!!! He took it to work with him. Now when I need it, I have to go ask him for it! I think I need to buy my own now!! The smell is actually soothing. It smells like eucalyptus & peppermint.

It is gentle enough for children as well. Our other children do not get headaches, but it does work for Sonny (14). He has suffered from headaches for several years. I probably need to buy him his own too!

I am excited to find a product that is not only natural but actually works! My mom also suffers from headaches (guess it runs in the family), I am going to buy her one too!

I believe this is a wonderful product well worth the price. I asked my husband how much he thought it costs. He said $30 for the vial. Nope~ only $11.

We were sent the AP Chemistry DVD to review. My oldest is only 14 and is just finishing the 8th grade, so we were unable to really evaluate it for a high school student that is going to be taking the AP Chemistry test. We really have not covered much chemistry either. This was hard to review because of that.

It is well put together. The DVD delivers all the necessary review for students to master the chemistry facts needed for the Chemistry AP test.

Lesson Planet is a membership website to help teachers and parents find the information they need to teach classes or explore subjects with children. This search engine site began in 1999. It is advertisement free and membership is available for teachers, homeschoolers and school districts.

There are several ways to search for what you are looking for by:

Searching by keyword, grade level and overall rating
Clicking the Narrow, Related or My Recent Searches keyword options
Browsing for reviewed resources by Subject, Calendar or Theme
Exploring relevant State Standards, matched to each member’s state
Utilizing Advanced Search to narrow by duration, method, technology, and more

Basically you type in what you are looking for and they will have links to other websites to look at and possibly use. These websites are not looked in to for content so I would no let my children have free rein. Also, some of the links they give are no longer available.

Personally I would never use it. I found it difficult to find what I wanted. Because of free search engine sites I believe this is really expensive. However if you are not someone comfortable searching on the internet, then this could be of use to you.

We also reviewed some of the homeschool games that Debbie Lott designed. The games are fun, educational and some are even challenging (well, for me anyway). These games were written for homeschoolers in mind, bu would work well for any child. One great thing about them is that they are pretty inexpensive. I used them as a fun activity for my kiddos when they were done with regular school work or as time to spend together. They are available through CurrClick for $3.50 each!

The third and final book in the series Can I just tell you how excited and sad I was to read this book? I have fallen in love with Bella's family. They are zany, delightful, and family oriented. Not only did I want to read this book quickly to see what happens, but I also wanted to savor it at the same time. Of course I read it in no time and I was surely not disappointed. This book was even better then the 2nd one! I personally like the first the best, probably because that is when I met Bella and her crazy family.

In It Had to Be You Janice Thompson, finally writes about Bella's wedding, but not before she gives us all the details of her Aunt Rosa and Uncle Laz's wedding. What fun they all had. I was thrilled to learn what each of these themed weddings would entail. Of course there are many surprises lurking in the book as well.

Are you ready to have a great laugh and your soul filled? Read this book. Haven't read the other two? Check out my review for book 1, Fools Rush In and book 2, Swinging on a Star. They really will be worth your time to read them.

I am a BIG Dave Ramsey fan. Brian and I have read several of his other books and wholeheartedly agree with his financial advice.

We have used the debt snowball technique to pay off our debt and we have no credit cards!! Dave has literally changed the way we think about money.

This particular book gives answers to a lot of questions people have about finances. Even though I have read all of his other books, I sill learned a TON of information I did not know before. I was amazed at hw quickly I read it. I could not wait to read the whole thing.

I like the fact that it is small, so you could put it in your purse or car and read it while you wait somewhere.

I would definitely give this book as a gift for a wedding, high school graduate, Christmas, birthday, etc...

If you have never read any of Dave Ramsey's books you HAVE to get this book and read it` it will change your life!!

There is no certain method you "must" follow, which I like because we are more eclectic in our homeschooling style. I feel this book would be a handy book to use while considering home schooling or when you are starting out.

We have been home schooling for over 9 years and I did find a little that I gleaned. However I find that it would best be used for a newbie.

I recommend buying this book if you are considering homeschooling, are starting out, or are in the middle and need some new ideas!

She shares stories of crazy stunts her boys have done and also the sweet things they have done.

I can relate a bit. I do have two boys, but unlike Rachel I have one little girl. My boys are not as crazy as hers are, but it was a fun book to read. She makes you feel like you are not alone.

If you have boys or know someone that has boys I recommend reading this delightful book.

Terrestria Chronicles

Terrestria Chronicles, from Ed Dunlop Ministries is about a kingdom of ladies, knights, & dragons. But what makes this series different is the underlying vein of Christianity throughout these books.

The first books starts off with Josiah as a slave to the master, Argamor. Argamor plans on taking over the kingdom and Josiah plans to stop him. He later becomes free and is taken in by the royal family.

The second book continues with Josiah as he is sent on a journey by the king to castles around the kingdom. He will learn to trust the king and depend on him.

We were not really thrilled with the story too much. My boys love dragons and knights etc... but I really think he authors tried too hard in the allegory with Christianity.

Although this is the third in the Quantico Series, it could really be a stand alone. Each of the three books tells the story of a different FBI agent. I really like this type of series, where the main story ends at the end of the book.

Rachel Sutton is at a fast food restaurant where she spies a doll hidden beneath the icy snow. As soon as she touches it she gets this horrible "vibe" from it. Every time she touches the dolls she gets shaky, sweaty, and her heart races. After discussing it with her friend, Marta, Marta decides to talk to her husband, a police officer, about it. As they chat about it at a local restaurant, little do they know that a reporter is eavesdropping on the conversation. After much thought, she decides to take the doll to the FBI.

Rachel gives the bag with he doll in it and tells him what happens when she touches it.

Soon Rachel's life gets crazy. She is starting to fall for Nick! Between them will they find out what the significance of the doll is? Will Rachel survive?
This is definitely a page turner. I finished it in two days!

Now I need to go back and read the first one. If you like a little suspense mixed with light romance read this series.

All About Spelling is launching their new reader, What Am I? in April. Soon, they will have more readers that will correlate with the levels in All About Spelling.

We were sent What Am I? to read and review. This one follows the Beehive Reader (it is getting a new title Cobweb the Cat) I reviewed earlier in the year. This book has longer stories but the same beautiful illustrations as the previous book.

These readers coordinates with level 2 of All About Spelling, but you can use this fabulous book even if you do not use the All About Spelling curriculum.

The are working on a new program, All About Reading, which will be launched later this year. This program is a stand alone or will work wonderfully with All About Spelling.

We think this style of book is so cute, and we love the illustrations. I do think it is really pricey. I doubt I would spend this amount for each book in the series.

Your child becomes a traveler in this virtual world. They create a character and travel from place to place running into famous historical figures along the way.

Travelers have the chance to esign an island, dress up in native garb, and learn geography.

My nine year old son, Ben, really enjoyed the concept of this, but we were both a bit disheartened when we played at how difficult it was to know your way around. But, we finally figured it out as we continued to play it.

**I have a few major concerns about this virtual world. There is no way to tell if the kiddos are interacting with other kids or whether they are adults pretending to be kiddos. The other is the chat feature. I am against children "chatting" with others. I see no need for this in this type of game. It is a red flag to me.

Another thing I do not like is it is not very educational. It is more fun with a bit of education "thrown" in. Your kiddos will also run into evolution topics as well.

Kind of spendy too! You can always use the free version, but just can not have access to all of the locations. I find that kind of wrong in a way as the children would never be able to finish the game.

Price: You can get access and play the game for free, but to enjoy the entire game (go to more places etc..) there is a cost. $5.99 per month, with discounts available for longer subscriptions.

Julianna was so excited when she realized that I needed to review a product that was all for her! She just tuned 5 a few months ago and sometimes wants to do school like her older brothers. So I was excited to have something for her to use for 15-20 minutes per day.

Time 4 Learning is an online educational program that teaches learning by being fun.

There are over 40 topics divided over two levels for your child to choose from. Here are some ofthe subjects yourchild can choose:

Numbers
Feelings
Sports
Human Body
On the Farm
Space
Weather
Insects
Color Mixing
Out to Sea
Manners

It was easy for my daughter to navigate, but was very slow at times. Not sure if it was the website or our internet (although we rarely have issues).

I think this program is kind of expensive, especially for those of us who have several children. I was quite disappointed that we did not get to try some of the upper levels, as I wondered if those would be good for those who need more practice or to expand their current curriculum. I also wanted to know if it was a full curriculum and if it would take the palce of other programs or if it was just a helper kind of thing.

What I found on the preschool level is that it was mediocre at best. In my opinion, there are several other websites and computer CD's which I feel do a better job of helping preschoolers then this program.

However if this is the kind of program you are looking for then I suggest you check them out.

Price: Time 4 Learning offers access to their pre-K to 8th grade programs on amonth-to-month basis. Their prices periodically change, but right now the first child is $19.95 per month and eachadditional child is $14.95 per month.

Galaxy Education

We have received yet another math program to review. This time it is Math Galaxy. As part of the TOS crew we were sent downloadble links to all of their products to use and review. I had trouble with downloading most of them~not sure if it was my computer or the products~ but we were able to use one. I worked with the technical people at Math Galaxy and we tried for a few weeks to figure out the issue.
Galaxy Education says,

They have several different product types to choose from.

Kathleen Desmarais is not only the owner of Pandia Press but also a homeschooling mom of 4. Pandia Press publishes science and history curriculum in the Classical Education form.

We were sent one of the History Odyssey books~Level 1 Modern Times.

When we received it in the mail I was so excited as I was leafing through the pages of the study guide. It was an entire year's worth of history!

However as I was reading through it I noticed I needed to have several books to use with the curriculum. I do not own those and was a bit disappointed that I needed to purchase something in order to use the curriculum. I was not familiar with History Odyssey or I might have known I needed some books to go with it.

But I really feel that it is a great guide. There are activities, reading, writing, and map work. Level one guides also contain hands on activities with cooking, arts and craft projects, and coloring. Most of the level 1 guides are written for 1st through 4th grades, but the one we reviewed, Modern Times, is written for 3rd through 6th grades.

Critical Thinking

If you have never heard of The Critical Thinking Co. now is the time to listen up. We LOVE them! We have been using their books for several years. They are not only educational but fun too!

For the TOS crew I was sent Balance Benders to use and to write up this review.

Balance Benders is written for children in 2nd-4th grades. It introduces early algebra skills and deductive thinking through puzzles.

When we got this book in the mail Ben (9 years old doing 3rd and 4th grade work) immediately wanted to start on it. So, of course if he is begging to do school I will happily oblige. We looked at it together and I explained it just a bit, then let him have at it. He nearly finished the entire book in less then an hour! Not only that but he only missed one! Maybe he needs the next book up. Anyway he loves these kinds of logical puzzles and I love the Critical Thinking Company for producing these kinds of books to help children explore and learn through fun and engaging books!

Artistic Pursuits

We have been using two of Artistic Pursuits books for a couple of years, so when we were selected to review a book for Artistic pursuits I was very excited!

The ones we have been using areGrades K-3 books 1 & 2. I decided to get one for the older kids, so I chose to review Grades 4-6 book 1.

I have no artistic talent in my body whatsoever. I know you do not believe me, but it is true ask anybody that knows me. Anyway, a couple of years ago I was on a quest to find an art program that required minimal knowledge on my part. I researched Artistic Pursuits and decided to give them a try.
I really like them because I do not have to be an art buff to teach my children about art. I also do not have to be artistic or creative. The book comes with everything laid out for you. You do have to purchase art supplies. Artistic pursuits even has kits you can purchase to go with each book.

My mom usually does art with Ben once a week since she is very talented and knowledgeable in art stuff (she did not pass on the art gene to me!) So between my mom and I we decided to pick the book on drawing for Ben. Ben is 9 and loves to do art stuff.

Ben read the first lesson and then tarted on the hands on portion a few days later with grandma. He can be a perfectionist in his school work If he does not do it perfectly he gets frustrated. However with this art program he is learning how to do the art and not just copy what is already there. So he is able to put hi own spin on it without doing it "wrong"

I HIGHLY recommend this to all homeschoolers!

The TV Teacher

Alphabet Beats is an award winning handwriting program that uses visual, auditory, and a hands on approach. There are memorable chants that the children listen to and learn to help them remember how to write the alphabet.

I was sent a free copy of the UPPER CASE Writing DVD to use and review. I have to be honest, I was not thrilled. I do not like my children to watch a lot of TV and did not really like the name "TV Teacher." I do not sit my kids in front of a computer screen or TV screen for them to learn. So, I did not have my hopes up for this one.

When it came in the mail I put it on and let Julianna, 5yrs, Ben, 9 yrs, and my day care kiddos, Dylan, 4 yrs and Alayna, almost 2yrs, watch it with me. I was surprised the children enjoyed it so much.

On the menu page you can choose any of the 26uppercase letters of the alphabet to play. (They also have a lowercase DVD too). So I let the children randomly choose letters. Theygot so excited to choose the letters in their names. We had to taketurns to choose the next letter!

*(Word of caution! I was extremely disappointed with letter U. It has the lady that teaches the letters wearing a pair of underpants over her regular pants and then talking about underpants and that she should not be wearing them on the outside of her clothes. I really thought this was in poor taste. There are so many other U words to use without an adult wearing and talking about wearing underwear. We will be skipping that letter.)

A Measure of Mercy

Home to Blessing Volume 1

Even though A Measure of Mercy is book 1 in the Home to Blessing series, I was confused as to the characters and what their history was to each other. I looked in the front of the book after I was part way through it to see if the author had written anything else on the town of Blessing. She has ~ 4 other books! Well, I guess if I had read those I would not have been so confused. I do believe saying it is book one is misleading.

I believe the back of the book is a bit misleading. Astrid and Joshua have never really talked to each other, yet it says they have agreed to write letters back and forth. I wonder if the person who wrote the back of the book synopsis ever read the book. The end of the book ends in a cliffhanger.

The book is mainly about Astrid ad her desire to know the will of God concerning her future. She is not sure if she should become a medical missionary to Africa, go on to more medical training, or home to Blessing.

I was hoping for a little more about Joshua and why he feels he loves Astrid, but of course this could be in the other books. I also felt the book lacked any depth. It seemed the author was writing a book without any explaining~ especially if this is book one. I have never read any of Snelling's other works, but I am not sure I want to because I felt the author assumed the reader knew all about the families in the book and their previous experiences.

Do you want to teach your children money management, but do not want them to make mistakes with "real" money?

Family Mint is a free online website where parents and kids can make deposits or open a savings account.

Kids can set goals for saving their money, learn how to manage their money, request withdrawls and much more!

Parents can log in and see all of their children's accounts at the same time, make deposits, keep track of allowances for their children, & much more!

There are many opportunities for the children to see where their "money" is going, how they are spending it and how much interest it is earning.

Paretns can use this as a tool to keep track of real money or just practice money management with virtual money.

We do not give our children allowances, so this program seemed to not be a good fit for us. However to teach our children about money management this is a good program to help them understand the tracking of their "money."

An Honest Love

Just finished reading this one last night.

I very good read. I enjoy reading books about the Amish. Even though they are fictional, I get to enter their world, which is so different from my own, and spend a few hours. It makes me appreciate my family relationships more, because the Amish are all about their families.

There are two stories going on in An Honest Love. This first is about Anna. She has moved to Ohio to break free from her past relationship where she was jilted. She has come to open a gift shop with her mother. She has some medical issues which are pretty serious, but she tends to pretend are not that bad. She falls in love with Lukas. However when Lukas finds out the secret she has kept from him, he is not sure he can get past the betrayal.

Lukas' sister Elizabeth is a young Amish girl who finds her self befriending an Amish man who has recently got out of jail for selling drugs. Aaron has turned his life around and has accepted the Amish faith. But, he keeps to himself because he believes everyone around his is judging him. Will Elizabeth be able to help Aaron see he is wrong?

I have to say that I am hoping there is a sequel because I have a few unanswered questions. I felt the last chapter of the book contained lots of things that I really needed to know more about, but sometimes that is what the author wants is for us to think about those things and answer them ourselves.

I have read many fiction books about the Amish, some have been better then this one, but I think this is a pretty good one. It just felt to me that the author was throwing in an Amish word (Pennsylvania Dutch) to make is more Amish.

Just found out this is book 2 in the Middlefield series. My questions may have been answered in the first book or in a book that is yet to come. I wish it would have said somewhere on the book that this was book 2.

        There were two books we really liked and will listen to over and over. But there were two we did not like. Our two favorites were, Seventy Times Seven & Braving the Storm. They all had good messages, but what bothered me about You Can't Come In & Race With Midnight was that it was portrayed that all you have to do is accept Jesus as your Savior and you will be saved. We believe that you have to do good things and be obedient and repent when you need to in order to be able to go back to Heaven again. So depending on your beliefs these may be a good fit for your family. The last page of each book and at the end of the CD has a page which essentially says the same thing. We just turned the CD off before that and I did not read that last page.

       We really like Uncle Charlie's reading of the books. We used them on Sundays and we used them for our lesson time on our Family Home Evening.

There are a couple of different characters in the book, whose stories are laid out~ however they do cross and mingle.

This story does not necessarily have a happy ending~ which isrefreshing. I have been reading many books over the last 6 months or soand 99% of them have fictional happy endings.

However I was disappointed that the author did not dive deeper into her characters. I got bits and pieces of information about Abbi andBen, but did not know why Abbi was a vegan, had bulimia, and had anemotionless childhood with her parents. I needed to know more.

My favorite character was Matthew, I would have loved to find out his ending and where is life went past the end of this book.

Leaving Yesterday

It all starts when Alisa Stewart looked up and saw a police officer pull up to her house. She just knows that her remaining son Kurt, is dead, just like his brother. However for Alisa that is the only bright thing in her life. Alisa and her husband are separated and then she makes a decision that may change not only her life forever but also Kurt, her husband, and their 10 year old daughter.

This book is different from any other book I have ever read. I am still trying to decide if I like it or not. I do not agree with what Alisa did and was appalled she did what she did. As a mother I would have taken a different road and made different choices. The writing is good and I wanted to keep reading it until I found out what happened to Alisa and her family.

My friend Janet (Simply Schooling Mom) read and reviewed this book several months ago (to read her review go here). I kept looking to see if Thomas Nelson had the book available to review for a long time. They finally had it up again to review and I requested to review it.

I am so glad I did. Janet was right when she said it was a must read. The Noticer is a life changing book. The story follows a man, Jones, who seems to show up when people are in need. A whole town is eventually affected by this man. He is able to help people gain perspective of their life when their life is in turmoil.
I certainly do not want to give away the purpose of the book, but I do want you to have a desire to read it, so not much more about the plot.

I would like my teen to read this, I think it might even help him gain a little perspective too!

How Do I Love Thee is a historical fiction work bout Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning and the love they shared. I have read many poems by both poets over the years, but I never knew the isolated life Elizabeth led. Her tyrannical father, whom she loved, allowed none of his children to marry. Elizabeth stayed in her room for most of her adult life because of an undiagnosed illness. I did find this book a tad boring and lifeless. In my opinion, Elizabeth suffered from weakness because she did not get out. Once she started getting outside and eating healthy food her condition improved. This was one book I started to read several months ago and could not get into. This time I read it because I needed to write my review. It took me several days to read (very unlike me~I usually devour books in a day or so).

I could not wait to read the next curve in the story. I literally felt myself there with Olivia.
